My Monthly Themes List for Pre-K to Kindergarten!

When planning your Curriculum for your homeschool, daycare or classroom it is great to have a list of some basic monthly themes. As you go throughout your school year, you can add on themes depending on the childrens interests and there are many great theme ideas online! You will also accumulate materials that you can re-use add onto from week to week and year to year.

Our monthy theme ideas list for the daycare has grown and we have added many theme ideas to it. I will be expanding on these themes and resources in future posts, stay tuned! Today, I will be sharing my Monthly Themes guide list which I use along with Montessori-based activities for ages 2.5 - 6. It is great to incorporate a theme into a Math, Language and Cultural activity. Check out your local Discount Store for some inexpensive activity items, trays and containers.

September:

Safety (indoors and outdoors), Family & Friends, Manners & Emotions, Apples

October:

Autumn, Fall Colours, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Farms & Harvest

November:

Hibernation, Transportation (land, air, water), Types of Homes

December:

Winter: weather, clothing & activities, Types of celebrations/holidays around the world

January:

Types of animals: endagered, jungle, sea, birds, etc., Dinosaurs, Winter Fun

February:

Five Senses, Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day & caring and sharing, Community Helpers, Around the World

March:

Farm animals, Zoo animals and pets, St. Patricks Day, Insects, Space

April:

Spring, Easter, Planting Season

May:

In the Garden, Mother's Day, Earth, The Environment

June:

People and Cultures, Flowers, Father's Day, Summer

July:

Bees, Summer Sports, Hobbies and Life Cycle of a Frog

Get creative, have some fun, follow the childs interests, change a few activities every week to every other week and by adding a themed counting, phonics and even an art or science activity to your shelf, you too can incorporate some educational and fun monthly themes into your classroom!
